Kakatiyas were earlier the soldier community in the Rashtrakuta dynasty.  During the rule of the Chalukya dynasty in the 12th, Kakatiyas rose from the level of village chiefs to mighty rulers.  Prola, the first Kakatiya ruler, also addressed his military generals as ' reddys '.  Kakatiyas controlled these chiefs by offering them lands and posts in the army.
