A hydra moves by many methods like swimming, walking, looping and somersaulting. In all methods the tentacles are used. By using the tentacles they swim and walk but in looping and somersaulting they use tentacles and basal disc both.

Looping:

In this method, an erect hydra bends its tentacles to grip and then forms a loop by pulling the basal disc. Now the hydra becomes erect again. This method is used for short distance locomotion.

Somersaulting:

In this method an erect hydra bends its tentacles part and becomes inverted. Then by bending its basal disc part it becomes erect again. Hydra uses this method for long distance locomotion.
