Metal + Water ----- Metal hydroxide + Hydrogen (H2)

OR

Metal + Water ------ Metal oxide + Hydrogen (H2)

Examples -

2K + 2H2O(cold) ------- 2KOH + H2

Potassium + Water ---------- Potassium Hydroxide + Hydrogen

Zn + H2O(steam) ------- ZnO + H2

Zinc + Water ----------- Zinc oxide + Hydrogen

metal react with water to form metal hydroxide and hydrogen gas.k+o2=k2o,k2o+h2o
