☆ Subsistence crises happens due to bad harvest. Bad harvest results in Scarcity of grain, the rising food prices and therefore, the poorest cannot no longer buy bread. Which results into food riots, diseases epidemics and death.

Subsistence crisis can be defined as an extreme situation where the basic means of livelihood are in endangered.

In France, due to the rapid expansion of the population from 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789. Due to this, Subsistence crisis occurred.

There was a sudden growth of populatation, the population went from 23million to 25million, due this sudden growt the farmers could not keep up with the population causing less harvest, due to less harvest the price of rice and bread increased, most of the people (around 90% to be exact) were employes and did not get enough wage, the price of the food was more then the wages of the emoplyes,when there was a drought or a hail storm the harvest was less also causing the price to increase and increasing the gap between the poor and rich
