It's kind of the other way around, when a body of water becomes overly enriched with minerals and nutrients which induce excessive growth of plants and algae. This process may result in oxygen depletion of the water body. This particular process is known as eutrophication and this causes algal bloom. And when algae die and are fed by bacteria, ultimately oxygen depletion occurs.
