A PC is a general purpose computer system. It can be used for diverse functions for example a PC can be used to play a video, listen to a song, used to prepare a word document etc. So a PC is general purpose device. In terms of hardware a PC consists of a generalized CPU (Central Processing Unit) that forms the main component of a system with many other external devices like memory, disk drives, video controllers, network interface circuits etc. In order to make a system work a program called operating system has to be installed in it. If any other application has to be run on a system then corresponding software has to be installed like for a word document preparation MS office has to be there in the system.
