Aquatic life is harmed by acid rain due to-

Aquatic life survives best in pH around 6.5. Acidic rain results in decreased pH. Melting of ice sheets on lakes, results in episodic acidification, causing more damage.

Also acidification causes release of aluminium from soils into the water bodies. This has negative effect on gills of fish.

Acid deposition due to acid rain causes reaction with mercury to neurotoxic compound namely, methyl mercury.
