Angel in Disguise is a short story written by T.S. Arthur.

In this story, Arthur uses alcoholism as a source of the mother's death and her children's suffering. A village woman falls upon her own door's threshold under strong influence of alcohol.

She dies in front of her three children, leaving them orphan and frightened. Although one son and one daughter are adopted by villagers, Maggie is left behind because she has a damaged spine and is a handicap.

However, Joe Thompson adopts her, and gradually his wife accepts her too.
