Answer:
Antonio is bassanio's dearest friend and he is always ready to help him. When bassanio had to go to Belmont to win portia he had to ask antonio for money as he didn't had it with him. Bassanio assures antonio that if he will lend him three thousand ducats then he will give it back after winning portia. He tells antonio that he had spent the money extravagantly and now he has no money and he then explains it with the help of throwing two arrows in same direction by telling he will pay all the debts. Antonio's ships were sailing in different parts of the world so he couldn't raise the money himself but he asks bassanio to ask any other merchant to lend him necessary three thousand ducats for three months on Antonio's name.
