Octane number shows the ability of a fuel to resist knock (pre-ignition of the fuel) in the Engine. Thus we can say that fuel having high octane no. is ideal fuel for Gasoline Engine that needs high compression ratios. On contrary Cetane number is measure of ignition delay.
