Writer D. H. Lawrence in his essay ‘Why Novel Matters’, says that a novelist is better than a scientist or philosopher, as he is able to explain a whole man, alive. According to him, a novelist has a complete, profound and better understanding of a man, alive, than a scientist or a philosopher. Novels, therefore provide guidance and in-depth details of man, alive and as a whole. Hence, he says novels are superior, over other forms of literature.
