Development is the process of enhancing quality of life within a community between two points of time.

Sustainable Development is Development that produces an increase in quality of life that can be maintained in perpetuity.

Standard of living is a measurement of the material aspects of the economy. Typically, when the standard of living increases, quality of life also increases, but it is very non-linear, and essentially inconsequential at high incomes.

So, the link is tenuous.

There are 2 basic means to achieve development. Technological Development is an investment in the systems of infrastructure with an expectation of an improvement in the efficiency of how people use their time to convert resources into the means to meet their wants and needs. Human Development is the identification and removal of the obstructions within the self, family, and community that prevent people from being able to meet their needs effectively, and in so doing, increase the freedoms, choices, and capabilities.

Standard of living is fairly closely tied to Technological Development. But for technologically rich communities, there is little if any improvement in quality of life as a result of additional technological development - efficiency improvements are always incrementally decreasing.

In the long term, damaging the utility of the ecological services we rely on (by pollution, overfishing, or whatever) is decreasing our quality of life. By coupling Human Development with Technological Development, we find the ways to change our standard of living to what our ecological services can support, while increasing our quality of life in the long term. The art is to do them at the same time, so no subset of the community ends up carrying more burden than benefit. That’s hard. And that’s why its not happening as quickly as it needs to.

Uplifting the living standard of the people, Development works provide facilities to people. For example, the construction of road makes easy for coming and going of people. Similarly transportation for goods from one place to another becomes easier.
