He says he is surprised to have the opportunity to address the public as this installs him in a condition of surprise and he goes further by revealing his gratitude not just with messages by also by bowing himself ere the public. These two acts of Douglass shows how humble of a person Frederick Douglas was. He sustained for what he addressed and that supported his goal of fighting against eliminating slavery in the mid-nineteen century.
