Below the ground that we are living that is in the close to the core of earth there are plates which form the layers of the earth. These plates are rocky and they stick to the other block or plate. They having uneven surface they don't glide smothly rather stick to each other. At the time when the plates cannot endure the pressure it breaks this is when earthquakes occur. The plates then move around and continue to move unless again gets stuck.
