friction get affected by the nature of the surface as the surface gets more and more roughness it will decrease the friction. if there will any lubricating layer of something , or less roughness friction will increase.

example- The grooves present on the surface of the tyres of the motor  vehicle  are there to decrease the friction . the the grooves won't be there then the tyre will skid and car may met with an accident.
