Fuse wire is made up of lead which has low melting point so if high current comes lead(Fuse) melt then circuit breakes then current don't come to home appliances so they don't get any defect by high current

it works as an old day circuit breaker.
When current increase than a safe limit, The fuse wire melts a.k.a. fusion happens due to overheat. Thus the circuit breaks or "opens" & current stops.
