How does inert pair effect affect metallic character?

The inert pair effect is the tendency of the two electrons in the outermost atomic s orbital to remain unionized or unshared in compounds of post-transition metals. As a result, the inert pair of ns electrons remains more tightly held by the nucleus and hence participates less in bond formation .

as we no that metals has the tendency to lose electron...while due to inert pair effect the outermost s subshell of the element is tightly holded by the nucleus due to which the element tendency to loose electron is decreases. thus metals are affected by inert pair effect
