How does khadi help in generating employment in rural areas?

The Ministry is implementing the scheme of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for employment generation in the micro enterprises in the non-farm sector for rural and urban areas. PMEGP is a credit linked subsidy scheme of Government of India, for setting up of new micro-enterprises and to generate employment opportunities in the country through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), State Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) and District Industries Centre (DIC).
