hey..
the earth does not complete it's rotation in completely 24 hours some extra seconds or minutes are also taken so that time is get collected and form a new date so the year in which that day occurs us known as leap year as it has an extra day...

The earth revolves completely in its orbit in 365-1/4days(6hours) .So in every four years this 1/4day becomes a day.
1/4×4=1day
6hours =6×4=24hours(1day)
1/4×4=1day
6hours =6×4=24hours(1day)
