The metallic character goes on increasing i. e gradation. The atomic radius goes on increasing as one shell gets added up each period. As a new shell gets added the attractive force betn nucleus & outermost shell increases.. Hence it bcomes electro positive I. e by giving away electrons.. The penultimate shell is a complete octet.. Therefore the periodic trend that metallic character goes on increasing down the group

hey mate. here is the answer for you.
metallic character means the property of an atom to loose its electrons.
As we go down in a group the number of shells increases as one extra shell is being added each time as we go down.therefore the atomic size also increases.Due to this increase the reactivity of an element also increases so the atom of an element can easily loose electrons.
Therefore metallic character increases on going down in a group.
hope it helps.
