when receptors detect external information it is received by dendrites and then an electro chemical signal called impulse is released which carry information through  axon and nerve ending till synapse where neurotransmitters are generated and  then the impulse is detected and received by dendrites hence this process keeps on going in every nerve cell till it reaches destination of program and work.nerve cells make nervous system of our body.
