Pressure brings close to molecules of a gas that are far apart from each other. When more and more pressure is applied on gas molecules they come closer to each other so inter molecular forces start producing between gas molecules. Hope this helps :)

Its simple, we know that inter particle space of gas is very high.
Now suppose you are applying some pressure on a gas. In atmospheric pressure the particles were at gaseous state. But now you are applying pressure, so the inter particle space of gas is start decreasing. And if you will apply enough amount of pressure that the inter particle space will decrease as same as of liquid. Then, we can say that you did liquification of a gas.
Hope it will help.
