Private ownership: the property and/or business is owned by an individual or groups of individuals or a “special” individual called a corporation.

Community ownership is a variety of collective ownership where the property and/or business is purchased by a community organisation (often in partnership with the local municipal government) and run for the benefit of the community. E.g. a local conservation area where locals have free/near free use rights, or a store that everyone in the community owns a share in (a municipal co-op).

Just some basic examples. There are many variants due to the specific nature of each property/asset under community ownership, local municipal structure, local municipal laws and by-laws.
