How does reduced plant body is an adaptation of hydrophytes it is only a disadvantage?

Some hydrophytes are immersed in water such as the Elodea which when the whole body and leaves of the plant are under the water. ... They have small and thin leaves as they have less stomata so they have adapted to reduce growth as it is not needed.
