Answer:

Regionalism is not a new phenomenon in the Indian political system. Regionalism is a feeling or an ideology among a section of people residing in a particular geographical space characterized by unique language, culture etc. The lack of homogeneity in the Indian population causes division between different sections of the people based on religion, region, language, caste and race. This has led to the rise of political parties with agendas catering to one or a mix of these groups. Whatever may be the cause of regionalism it should be curbed when it threatens the unity and integrity of the nation. Regionalism can prove to be a positive phenomenon if people having regional feelings are able to balance the interest of their region along with the interest of the nation as a whole Government

The rise of regionalism has showed a significant threat to national development.

Regionalism affect to national unity

  • It will spreads among religious groups through unjustified mutual accusation, insult, and even physical fighting.
  • Regionalism is considered tolerable within limited bounds.
  • It affects the nation's unity and power.
  • If states' excessive regionalism is allowed to continue, severe interstate boundary disputes, river water issues, and other problems will arise.
  • Developmental projects are designed improperly, with a focus on regions dominated by heavyweight leaders, causing unrest in the rest of the country.
  • The separatism violence disrupts the entire society; people are killed, students are unable to attend schools and colleges, hospitality cannot be promoted, and so on. This has an impact on human resource development, as governments must deploy "additional forces to manage the situation, and it has a direct impact on the nation's economy".
