The releif feature that is the mountains and other landmasses.

They obstruct the rain bearing winds and thus cause rainfall

There presence and absence marks that rainfall will occur or not

If they are too low in height and run parralel to the direction of winds, for example arravalli ranges the areas shall receive scanty rainfall and are dry like gujrat and rajasthan.

If the mountain ranges are high and act as a barrier , then they cause heavy rainfall on the windward side , for example the garo , khasi , jaintia hills which act as a funnel and cause heavy rainfallin mawsynram, Cherrapunji etc.
