Ans. Sherlock Holmes deduced that the person who has visited them is not actual Dr Mortimer from walking stick. The person who visited them had a heavy walking stick and he had a habit of giving his stick to his dog to carry. But when Sherlock examine his stick he show bite marks in the middle which means he must have a smaller dog like a spaniel that gripped the stick tightly in the centre for the balance that and the bite mark left on the stick were very small they could not belonged to a large dog like a setter.
