so much sound can have a drastic effect on one’s quality of life, as anyone who has ever dealt with a noisy neighbor knows all too well. The impacts of too much noise can go beyond mere annoyance, however. The EPA recognizes noise pollution as a serious health concern, and cautions that too much exposure to disruptive sounds can cause  “stress related illnesses, high blood pressure, speech interference, hearing loss, sleep disruption, and lost productivity.”Often, however, we either forget or disregard the fact that humans are not the only organisms living within our matrix of anthropogenic sound waves. If the ambient noise created by traffic, and other components of human society is significant enough to be of concern for human health, what effects must it have on local wildlife? Workers in many industrial or construction sites are required to don earplugs or other forms of noise protection, but the sparrows, and other creatures that may inhabit the area have no such luxury.
