Reasons why hydrogen peroxide can be used as bleaching agent:

i)        Generally, all per-oxy compounds are unstable in nature like dibenzoyl peroxide, peracetic acid, etc.

ii)        Hydrogen peroxide has per-oxy makes it unstable.

iii)        While reaction H_{2}O_2 gives [tex]H_{2}O[\tex] and nascent oxygen(O). The nascent oxygen(O) is responsible for bleaching action i.e. removing of stain.

iv)        Bleaching is similar as of oxidation reaction which liberates oxygen as a by-product.
