the intensity of sunlight as we move from equator to the poles depends on the angle that the sun rays make at that point.the sun rays strike at 90 degrees at the equator so the intensity is more and temperatures are high. but as we move away from the equator,the rays strike slantly which means less sunlight reaches that area.thus the temperature slowly decreases.as u move to poles the sunlight is very very slant and almost no sunlight reaches.so temperatures are very low.
