In the Beginning of the story Mr. Oliver is introduced as a fearless person who doesn't believe in ghosts or evil stories but at the night while passing through the pine forest when he saw a boy who was featureless (without any face ) ,he started running which was truly opposite of his nature .

In the Beginning of the story Mr. Oliver is introduced as a fearless person who doesn't believe in ghosts or evil stories but at the night while passing through the pine forest when he saw a boy whose face was featureless  ,he started running away from him which is  natural reaction of any person .This was  totally  opposite of his nature .But as said no one can be fearless ever there is some or the other thing which frightens a person as such the case with Mr. Oliver.
