How does the density of a substance determine whether a solid piece of substance will float or sink in water ?

hey mate

if the density of a substance is more as compared to the density of the water the object will sink but if the density of the substance is less then the water the object will float

The more the density, the more the weight of the object.

That's why, when we have a denser object, it will have more weight and would slowly outgrow the buoyant force of the water.

The less denser the object, the lighter and the better it floats.
