how does the electronic configuration pf an atom relate to its position in the modern Periodic table

the number of shells indicates which period it belongs and the valence electrons or the electrons in the valence shell determines its group and so the electronic configuration determines the chemical property of the element

The electronic configuration of an element shows the position of an element in a group..
e.g C6 has electronic configuration 1s2 2s2 2p2 the last subshell has 4 electrons it comes in group 14..
