The holographic principle is a property of quantum gravity theories which tries to solve the black hole information paradox within string theory.

it was first proposed by Gerard 't Hooft. it was given a precise string-theory interpretation by Leonard Susskind.

The principle states that the description of a volume of space should be thought like encoded on a boundary to the region, preferably a light-like boundary ex. as a gravitational horizon.
