How does the meaning of pure substance different for a common man than to a chemist?

For a chemist or a scientist, a pure substance means that the substance is made of only one kind of atoms. On the other hand, for a common person it means that they are pure and does not include any impurities. For example, when a person says that the air of this place is pure, he simply means that the air does not contain any impurities. Conversely, the scientists don't consider air to be pure as it is a mixture of many gases like oxygen, nitrogen, water vapour, argon etc.
