The narrator try to console the old man and it affected the old man in a positive way in the story old man at the bridge--

1)The narrator asked the old man that did he left the dove cage opened so that the four pair of pigeons could fly and safe their lives.

2)The narrator requested the old man not to worry about the other animals

The old man was very much consoled by the words spoken by the narrator.
