Smoke is the colloidal solution of the solid particles such as carbon, arsenic, dust particles etc. ... This is done by the cottrell smoke precipitator which neutralizes the charge on the carbon particles and neutralizes them. In this way smoke coming out of the chimneys gets free from the charged particles .

Explanation:
- Cottrell precipitator is an electrostatic precipitator which is used as a filtration tool that removes fine particles from a blowing gas, such as “dust and smoke”.
- In this precipitator using the power of an “induced electrostatic” charge that minimally impedes the “flow of gases” through the unit.
- Charged particles of smoke are carried through a chamber in Cottrell precipitator containing plates loaded opposite to the smoke particles.
- Then smoke particles are lose their load on the plates and become precipitated.
