How does the rod become charged

Hey there !

When a glass rod is rubbed with a silk cloth, it gets positively charged. This happens because the electrons present in the glass rod get transferred to the silk cloth when it is rubbed, hence leaving it positively charged. The silk cloth gets excess electrons and gets negatively charged.

This is called charging by friction.
