The density of the medium has an effect on the velocity of light . The more the denser medium is the more light takes time to pass through it .. that means it slows down it also has to deal with refractive index as the density increases the refractive index also increases ( in most of the cases ) thou it depends thus the velocity gets slower down as the wavelengths decreases which imparts colour .
