The war had taken away everything from Nicola and Jacopo. Their father
was killed and they became orphan and homeless. Before all that fiasco
they led a very comfortable life. The war forced them to come on
streets, exposed them to bitter cold and starved them. After the war
they found their sister suffering from tuberculosis in the spine. They
got her admitted in the hospital and ran small errands daily so that
they could pay the hospital fee. The level of devotion and maturity at
such a tender age shown by the boys promise hope for the society and
gives something to take inspiration from.
