after the sides are halved then

side = a/2

new surface area = 6(a/2)²

=>  6a²/4 => 3a²/2


change = 6a² - 3a²/2 = (12a² -  3a²)/2

=> 9a²/2


percentage = 9a²/2  /  6a²  * 100

=> 9a² / 12a² * 100

=> 9/12 * 100

=> 3/4  * 100

=> 3 * 25

=> 75%
