Hey Friend,

Electronegativity is the tendency of an atom to attract electrons to itself when combined in a compound. Electronegativity increases across the period.

Following are the reasons or factors responsible for this trend in elements -

1. Atomic radii (decreases across a period) - A small atom takes up electrons more readily than a large atom since the nucleus has greater attraction on the electrons.

2. Nuclear charge (increases across a period) - as the nuclear charge increases, the tendency if atoms to accept electrons also increases.

Hope it helps!
