the velocity of sound changes when mediums change because when the mediums change for ex, air to solid the distance between particles of matter decreases making them to not lose energy and give more energy to the next particle faster than air.
in air since the intermolecular space is more, it takes more time,
in solid, intermolecular space is less so it takes. less time to hit the other particle to propagate sound

Answer:

The velocity is determined by the medium that the wave travels in. Water is denser than air and so the sound wave travels faster in it. Therefore, the wavelength must increase.
