Rapid urbanisation means rapid growth in the number of industries and internal migration to cities which lead to the pressure on existing water sources around the cities. Over exploitation of natural sources like water is disturbing the environment in many ways:
1) Over population leads to over utilisation of water resources
2) Urbanisation adds to water pollution
3) Lack of rain water harvesting structures like ponds, lakes etc.
4) Poor waste management and sewage treatment

Answer:
Explanation:
Multiplying urban centers with large and dense population and urban lifestyle have further aggravated the problem. Most of the housing societies have their own ground water pumping devices to meet their water needs.
Urbanization leads to industrialization. More number of industries means more pressure on fresh water resources for producing various products.
Industries apart from heavy users of water also need electricity to run them which is obtained by hydel power plant.
