Across a period,valency first increases then decreases to 0.

When valency is decreasing ,it is following the rule of octet configuration. If no.of.valance electrons are more than 4, Then the valency will be 8 - n (n = no.of.electrons more than 4)

valency have a combining capacity and valency of an element is is dependent on the number of electrons in the outermost shell of the electron. in our group all constituting elements will have the same valency because they all have the same number of electrons in the outermost cell across the period number however increase by 1.
