How does valency of sulphur becomes 6 in SF6 ?

sulphur can make two bonds
but after excitation of sulphur it contain 6 single electrons so it can form 6 bonds & it valency becomes 6 in SF6

valency of the said elements in their respective compounds are
1.suphur = 6
then valency of sulphur becomes SF6
