villi increase the surface area or the intestinal wall by making available a greater surface area for absorption.Villi increase the surface area for more efficient food absorption.

Villi are small projections on the inner surface of the intestine.As the food passes through the small intestine,they act as a speed breaker and try to absorb as much nutrients as possible.
