the bottle of the fire extinguisher contains concentrated sulphuric acid.it is attached to a knob. knob is struck for the chemical reaction to take place. the bottle breaks and sulphuric acid reacts with sodium bicarbonate. due to this reaction, carbon-dioxide is produced.

Soda-acid fire extinguishers are now considered obsolete, as they will go off if they fall over, have no way to discharge just part of the water, and can explode if the reaction is triggered but the hose is blocked. They use a solution of sodium bicarbonate, and a vial of concentrated acid, usually sulfuric acid. Turning the extinguisher upside down momentarily mixes the acid and sodium bicarbonate solution, producing carbon dioxide. You then turn the extinguisher right-side-up, and the CO2 forces the water out through a hose. If the hose is blocked for some reason, the extinguisher can explode.
