how dolphins respire in water

Dolphins are not fish,they breath through lungs not thorough gills as fish do.they can't  stay underwater forever they must come to surface to breath.If they can't ,they will drown just like humans do.So,in order to breath,they have to be concious......they breath through the blowhole,a hole in the top of their head.
