dreams mainly occur in the rapid eye movement REM stage of sleep. when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake .REM sleep is revealed by continuous moments of the eyes during sleep.....

during a full 8 hour night sleep
most dreams occur typically due to REM..
No one knows exactly why people dreams.

still other believe, REM sleep when dreaming takes place helps to consolidate memoris. repulsion brain or rest other parts of the brain it also not clear,,how dreams are formed
